24 August 2007
The Party of European Socialists today condemned the bomb attacks in Spain, attributed by the Spanish police to ETA.
PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said “The entire European socialist and social democratic family joins PSOE and Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero in offering its support to the Spanish police. An attack on Spanish democracy is an attack on us all. It is an attack on democracy in Europe.”
“Today in Europe terrorism is seen as the desperate act of people who hate our society and hate our values. It will not shake our belief in the rule of law, and the rule of democracy where decisions are taken through voting and dialogue. ETA has rejected dialogue and will face legal justice for its violence.”
